First Thursdays & Royale Eatery

Set in the bustling streets of Cape Town are many art galleries ranging from old houses with squeaky wooden floors to ultra-modern 3 story spaces. On each first Thursday of the month people can be seen wandering around with a map of 10 to 13 different galleries marked off that have been arranged to stay open for public viewing until 9pm. There are no entrance fees and depending on the gallery there are sometimes even live bands, solo alternative music artists as well as drinks and snacks set out. 

After admiring some of the artwork that these galleries had to offer we could no longer ignore the fact that we were starting to get really hungry and decided that a classic combination of a good burger and milkshake would do just the trick.We ventured up Long Street to Royale Eatery, a busy restaurant where customers are seated at tables or booths while they browse through the extensive menu. 

 

What is better than starting off with a dessert/drink first and with their large range of milkshakes there is little room for disappointment. Their divine milkshakes range from the normal Strawberry or Banana to Choc-Coconut, Honeycomb, Choc-Brownie, Nuttikrust, Oreo and many more. I decided to indulge in a Choc-Brownie milkshake doubling as my dessert with its thick creamy consistency and big chunks of brownie swirling around and settling at the bottom of the shake. 

While most restaurants I have been to tend to make an average tasting patty made up for with their toppings, Royale’s beef patty is the star of the dish. A standard Royale burger comes with tomato, their own type of tomato sauce, gherkins and caramelized onions stacked on top of a delicious 160gram beef patty. Along with this comes a side of salad, potato chips or sweet potato chips.

Sushi Belt at Green Market Square Food Lovers Market

Fish fish fish! One of the best creations made with this is most definitely sushi...
Sushi cravings are probably some of the commonest that I have heard of. I for one keep seeking out new sushi restaurants with good specials.

Although I have tried the Cavendish Food Lovers sushi I have not been overly impressed. However, the sushi chefs at the Green Market Square Food Lovers Market sushi belt have succeeded in creating some of the best sushi I have ever tasted. One of the best things about this? From 3 til 6 pm Monday to Friday the sushi is all half price!

Although there are a couple of tables, majority of the seats directly face the impressive sushi belt. It seems that the chefs have free reign to design different types as they please. The result is some very interesting pieces stacked on the colourful plates daring customers to grab them.

Brenaissance

                          "Those who do not believe in magic will never find it.

Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Stellenbosch Winelands are many jewels. These places of gorgeous views and great food are sometimes only stumbled upon accidentally by random travellers or students looking for their next stop for wyntoer.

One of the best I have discovered is the restaurant called Brenaissance. The restaurant has a simple menu and one of their specialities is definitely their pizza. 

Customers are encouraged to eat with their hands and the rectangular pizzas with chargrilled edges are served on wooden boards perfect for sharing.

My absolute favourite and probably my best gourmet pizza thus far is definitely the Biltong, rocket, avo, feta and figs pizza. The sweet and salty flavours play off each other beautifully and you have to be careful as the sweet juice coming off the figs tends to run down your hand. 

Another one which I also enjoyed was the Aged parma ham, avo, rocket and parmesan shavings.

If after the pizza you still have some space for pudding they have desserts such as Carrot cake, Peppermint Crisp pudding and Chocolate brownies on the menu to satisfy your sweet tooth. 

This restaurant although it may not look like much from the outside is really an incredible place to go for lunch with a bunch of friends or with your family and the pizza never disappoints. I guarantee you will get cravings to go back for more

In the Beginning...

Hello!

So to start off this blog is currently for my own boredom and benefit and no one is likely to read it any time soon. 

Now...What to do when you have nothing to do?
There are always moments when you don't know what to do with your time. Personally I tend to get bored quite quickly. If I then end up going out to an awesome new place or restaurant it reminds me that there are so many amazing things to do especially in the Cape Town region!
